Symptomatology
When this diagnosis is made, those affected have usually been suffering for many months from the symptoms of physical illnesses and chronic pain without any medical cause being identifiable.
Not only the long and complicated medical journey but also the many negative test results and the increased burden in social, interpersonal and family life shape the lives of those affected: they live in constant worry about their life and their health.
Therapeutic approach
Treatment focuses primarily on uncovering the individual links between psychological factors and bodily symptoms. Strengthening existing resources, adequate stress management, adjusting the personal concept of health, and reducing protective and withdrawal behaviour are key treatment goals.
